In 2008, Americans recycled 7 million tons of metals, eliminating the equivalent of nearly 25 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, or taking 4.5 million cars off the road for one year.

VOLUNTEER AT SOLARFEST

2011 Volunteer Registration has closed. If you have registered, but have not heard confirmation from our Volunteer Coordinator, Jaya Holliman, nor received the detailed volunteer information and job placements, please contact her now at volunteers@solarfest.org

Thank you to all who will be joining us this year!

(Links to forms below have been disabled.)

Welcome, and thank you!  SolarFest works each year with the help of over 300 volunteers.

It would not and could not happen without you! Much of what makes SolarFest unique stems from our community of volunteers - veterans and new - who come together each summer to prepare the site, run the festival and break it down after it is over. While some folks donate time year-round, helping with promotion, fundraising, office tasks and odd jobs of every kind, the production of a fun, stress-free and smoothly run festival depends entirely on the hundreds of you who join us every July. We are so grateful for your attentive commitment to SolarFest!

NEW! REGISTRATION AND T-SHIRT POLICY

SolarFest delivers our festival on a budget made tight by our commitment to keeping the entrance fees accessible and made possible by the thousands of volunteer hours put in by all of us. In addition to the actual hours we work over the festival week, Volunteers contribute in many other ways. In 2011, we continue our earlier SolarFest policy of having Volunteers purchase their own t-shirts at our cost of $12 (Sales Tent price in 2010 was $23). Payment and size selection are made as part of the registration process. Your payment holds your place as a committed volunteer. In order to volunteer for SolarFest, you must register.

New this year and in direct response to your feedback: Returning volunteers who already own a volunteer t-shirt in good condition, do not need to purchase a new T. We appreciate that some of you may have dozens of vintage shirts and are reluctant to purchase something you do not need. We applaud your efforts to reduce unnecessary production impacts!

WHAT YOU GIVE TO SOLARFEST:

  • 9 hours of your time, generally one shift per day. We will prioritize accepting volunteers who can give 9 hours and be on site the entire weekend.
  • $12.00 for the 2011 SolarFest T-shirt. Required for all first-time volunteers. Optional for returning volunteers who already have a volunteer t-shirt in good condition.
  • Show up to your designated shift ten minutes before time, wearing your t-shirt and ready to work.
  • First-time volunteers must work their hours during the festival weekend (not prior or post-festival).
  • Orientation: All volunteers are asked to join us for one of our two volunteer orientations. We prefer that you plan to join us on Saturday, July 9 from 4 to 6:30pm, but we will also hold an abbreviated orientation on Friday, July 15 at 10am.

WHAT SOLARFEST GIVES TO YOU:

  • Free weekend admission to the 3-day event.
  • Free camping in the Volunteer Camping Area (see below).
  • Access to our Volunteer Hospitality Area - where you can get healthy food anytime of day, breakfast to dinnertime, take a break and meet other volunteers.
  • The opportunity to experience this amazing event from the inside - give a gift of SolarFest to others through your efforts!
  • A place to make new friends and contacts, and to be a part of the solution!

We expect that you volunteer because you want to help us put on a great, kind, festival.

About Volunteer Camping:
You may drive your vehicle to the Volunteer Camping area to unload, and you can park it in areas unsuitable for tents. Once those fill up, you will need to park in the general public parking (free). You may only park in volunteer camping if your car stays there the entire weekend—until Sunday at 7:00pm—as the access is directly through the festival grounds. If you anticipate needing your vehicle during the festival, you must park in public parking after unloading your vehicle. You are, of course, free to purchase a Car Camping pass (first come, first served) for the Car Camping field.

VOLUNTEER CAMPING WILL BE STRICTLY QUIET CAMPING!!! We all have work to do over the weekend and need our sanity sleep. NO LOUD TALKING OR MUSIC AFTER 10:00 PM!

2011 VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION

SolarFest requires volunteers in many areas of the festival. Click here to see the Volunteer Job Descriptions. These descriptions should help you decide which job is best suited to your interests, experience and skills. We appreciate your thoughtfulness in requesting a job that you believe is a good match for you!

While all jobs require your enthusiasm and positive representation of SolarFest, there are some jobs (noted in the job description on the list) that need certain skills and some training. For these jobs there is an additional step to make sure that you fully understand and can commit to the job requirements. Expect a follow-up email from that Department Head, who reserves the right of approval. Although we do our best to match you to your preference, we cannot guarantee that you will get your first choice.

On the Volunteer Application, please indicate your job preferences and your preferred times of day for shifts. We will do our best to fulfill your preference. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. By registering and committing early, you increase your chances of getting the schedule and job you prefer. Last-minute changes and emergencies do happen; we may ask you to change shifts and rely on your willingness to be flexible.

All volunteer applicants must complete a registration form, one per applicant. Do not include other members of your household on your form. Please answer all questions completely.
